  • Advantage/Difference of running USB2 Test Plug vs. USB-disk test

Hi, I run both the USB (with USB2 test plug) and Disk test with USB thumb drives. I was asked what the difference is in the test from a stress standpoint.

I read some of the threads and documentation. I can't seem to find a good answer.

    Thanks, D

If the test fails, with the thumb drive you don't know if the USB port failed or the storage in the thumb failed. The loopback plugs also give a indication of retransmitten frames.

    Also
    - With the free USB2Test software you can benchmark the USB port, which you can't do with many drives (which are limited by their memory speeds)
    - There is a LED indication if you have connected at USB1 speeds (e.g. due to lack of power).
