I would have thought that 8 cables for 8 ports is very reasonable.

There is no good way to test network ports without having a network. The internal loopback address is available, 127.0.0.1, but it isn't a very good test of the hardware.

    Network loopback tests

    Hi,

We are checking out Linux 3.0 for our test environment and are trying to test systems that have up to 8 network ports each. Having a separate network connection to each port is unreasonable. Is there anyway to do loopback tests on multiple NIC ports in a system?

    Thanks!
