  • Unable to play the video file in Windows 8.1 professional

    Hi Sir,

    Can I have your kindly help to check this issue?

    System summary:
    Grantley-EP Platform

    Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2698 v3 CPU + Intel® C610 series chipset
    OS: Win8.1-64 professional in EFI mode
    Test BurnIn: V7.1 Build 1017
    V8.0
    Video card: AMD W5100 or Nvidia K2000

    There are two CPUs on the motherboard.
    This issue occurs when running with 2 CPUs on motherboard.


    Steps:

    1. boot to desktop of Win8.1 Professional.
    2. Install "BurnInTest 8.0"
    3. Run BurnInTest and only select video adjust100%.
    It occurs failure with prompt "Unable to play the video file".

    Are the video card device drivers installed?
    Are you using the default video file, or one of your own?

      The video card driver is installed. And I am using the default video file.

      With the same system, I replaced the CPU with Intel Xeon E5-2695 V3 – 14 Cores.
      This issue does not occur.



      When using E5-2698 v3 CPU, I had the following test:
      Test 1, BurnIn 7.1 Build 1037
      1. copy a wmv file to C:\ at test target system (Wild.wmv native video file in Windows 7)
      2. set the video file path in BurnIn:
      Preferences->Video playback->C:\Wild.wmv
      Result: The video playback window opens, but no video is displayed in it.


      Test 2: BurnIn 7.1 Build 1037
      1. copy a wmv file to C:\Program Files\BurnInTest\ at test target system
      (Wild.wmv native video file in Windows 7)
      2. set the video file path in BurnIn:
      Preferences->Video playback->C:\Program Files\BurnInTest\Wild.wmv
      Result: The video playback window opens, but no video is displayed in it.

        Why do you need to copy the .wav file?
        A test files is installed with the BurnInTest software.


        By manually copying the files, maybe you are falling into the
        File System Redirector trap. See,
        http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...(v=vs.85).aspx
        (meaning the file won't be in the folder you think it is).

        Also the default file we provide is called, test.wav, not wild.wav.

          Sorry to confuse you.
          In Win8.1 professional, with default video test setting in BurnIn,
          The video test is fail with E5-2695 V3.
          The video test is pass with E5-2698 V3.

          Then I have the following test I posted on 09-30-2014, 10:14 AM.

            In your second post you said that worked with the Xeon E5-2695 V3 bit not the E5-2698 V3.
            In your third post you contradicted that and said that worked with the E5-2698 V3 but not the Xeon E5-2695 V3.
            The CPU should make no difference to video playback as these CPUs don't have integrated graphics in them. So maybe you are confused.

            Can you try BurnInTest V8.
            Can you also try playing the video outside of BurnInTest?

              Sorry to confuse you.

              In Win8.1 professional, the failure is:
              E5-2698 v3 - 16 Cores -->Fail.
              E5-2695 V3 – 14 Cores -->Pass.

              When playing the video outside of BurnInTest, there is no problem.
              I will try BurnInTest V8 again, and update.

                We have had one other report of this error on a similar 2 CPU system with this same CPU family. As far as I am aware we have not had this reported with any other CPU, that is, where it works when 1 CPU is enabled, but not 2. Have you reported this to us before?

                The customer found that the error did not occur if 1 CPU core was disabled, or a lower frequency SKU was used.

                I am not aware if the problem was resolved. I believe Intel was contacted about this.

                If you disable a CPU core does the problem go away?

                If you would like to send us a level 2 activity trace file (See Preferences->Logging) of the test run showing the error, I can at least check if it looks like the same problem. Our email address is:
