Yes, a log is created in free edition. Make sure you booting into the UEFI build (i.e. V5 and later) of the software and not running the BIOS build (e.g. V4) of MemTest86. Logging was implemented starting in V5.

This file is saved in the 'EFI/BOOT' directory in the USB drive's first partition

Does the free version create the log file?

I ran a test with the free version from the USB and looked in the correct directory and didn't find the log file.
