  • Phenom underperforming

First off, I really like this site and am really impressed by this software.

I just upgrades some hardware...But I might have screwed something up.

New cpu, MB and 2 geforce 9600 GSO (SLI now I realize how that's not as helpful as it sounds.) oh and 2x 2gb ddr3 to match the new MB.

My CPU seems to be at less than 25% of the average on this site. I used the stock thermal gel and fan but it seems to stay pretty cool average around 21C and 25C during the test.

I have gone through and double checked my graphics and MB drivers as well as my bios to make sure everything is up to date.

My processes are at 55 and no major applications are running during the test.

I know I'm screwing something up. Maybe a compatibility issue I am to dumb to realize.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Vista 32bit is not the best choice of O/S.
Win7 64bit would give better results.

Also temp is very low, 21C. This would seem to indicate that you aren't really loading the CPU (or it is below zero ambient temp in your room).

Check the Edit / Preferences window and make sure you have set the number of processes to 6. Also check task manager to see if all 6 cores get fully loaded during the CPU test.

I agree that dual GeForce 9600 cards probably wasn't the best choice. A single higher end card would give less compatibility issues, suck less power, generate less heat and probably less noise.

      Thanks PassMark!

Yeah, I think you are right. I need to get windows 7 64bit and a new decent graphics card. I tried to go cheap got them for 15 bucks each. Not a big loss but stupid of me to think it would work.

Yes, I had it set to 6 processes when I ran the last test.

Thank you for pointing out how odd the temp was. That was the problem. ASUS has a function called Cool n' Quiet that keeps your cpu cool...and quiet, it also seems it makes it go extremely slow.

I disabled this function in the bios ran one more test and hit 5k cpu rating. I am very pleased with this noticeable difference in my games, although not perfect I find this acceptable until I can do the upgrades you spoke of.

      Thanks again PassMark!
