  • same processor, two performance marks? ... I am confused

    Hi.
Seems like I need some advice on how to understand some CPU performance marks on the Passmark website.

I am trying to compare the marks for the processors
    Intel Core i7-3540M
    and
    Intel Core i5-3340M

    1.
On the page "PassMark - CPU Mark Laptop & Portable CPU Performance - Updated 20th of April 2013" the i7 shows a higher performance mark (5,066) than the i5 (4,70 .

    2.
But when I read the values on the benchmark pages for each single processor, I find that on the benchmark page for the Intel Core i7-3540M the performance mark (4585) is lower than the performance mark on the benchmark page for the Intel Core i5-3340M (4,70.

Now I am confused: how should I proceed if I was to choose, between both processors, the one with the higher performance mark?

    Advice will be highly appreciated

The values on the Laptop page were generated from submissions that are marked "Laptop" (user checkable value at time of submission) therefore the number of rating/samples can differ for the whole collection (which includes situations where users don't click the laptop checkbox for laptop and some user checks it for non laptops also).

To clean up the charts, we will disregard user checkbox 'Laptop' and generate results using what we deem as a laptop/portable processor. These changes should make the results line up to the regular charts.
