  • Inspiron 1501 (Terrible 3D Scores)

I've been testing all my machines today with PerformanceTest. The most amazing/disturbing results have been from my Dell Inspiron 1501. It has better scores than both of my desktops--yet both desktops trounce it in the 3D scores. I've tried using the drivers that came with the laptop, the newest drivers, and a couple of the pre-newest drivers. DirectX is current, hardware acceleration is enabled.

I realized that both desktops have the advantage of dedicated video memory, and the laptop is stuck with the integrated video card sharing the system memory....but the 3D scores are atrocious, especially considering Desktop2--which was built in 2001!

    All machines WinXP SP2

    --1501: AMD 64 X2 Turion TL-50 1.6Ghz, 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon Xpress 1150
    Overall score: 333.8
    CPU: 607.8
    2D: 414.7
    Memory: 286.5
    Disk: 263.3
    CD: 1.53
    3D: 60.6 (OUCH)

    --Desktop 1: Pentium 4 3.06Ghz, 1GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9600 X1050
    Overall Score: 311.8
    CPU: 471.3
    2D: 259.7
    Memory: 361.5
    Disk: 256.2
    CD: 0.73
    3D: 263.6

    --Desktop 2: AMD Athlon XP 1600+ 1.06Ghz, 512MB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce MX/MX400
    Overall: 137.4
    CPU: 183.1
    2D: 206.7
    Memory: 127.4
    Disk: 130.9
    CD: 3.16
    3D: 79.9

Any ideas on why the 3D score for the laptop is so terrible?

    Thanks,
