  • GTX 680 Score Substantially Lower Than Average?

So my average score seems to be substantially lower than the average, and I can't seem to work out the reasoning as to why. With nearly 300 samples, and that is the average it makes me feel that I'm doing something wrong.

    System Specs:

    OS: Windows 8 Pro 64-bit
    CPU: 3770K @ 4.8GHz (Corsair H100 cooling)
GPU: ASUS GTX680-DC2T-2GD5 (the TOP edition, with the factory OC)
    RAM: 8GB Patriot Viper V3 DDR3 @ 2133Mhz
    Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth Z77
    Audio: ASUS Phoebus
    Storage: 128GB Vertex 4 SSD + 2X 500GB 7200RPM WD drives.
    PSU: Corsair HX750

I don't have the chart at front of me, because I'm at work, but from what I can recall the graphics score is somewhere around the range of 4600.

Thanks in advance for any answers or suggestions.

Appreciate the response, I browsed through your link.

I'm actually a computer technician. Though my work is primarily repair, via laptops/desktops (software/hardware/networking). I'm also the custom build specialist for gaming, and high-performance PCs at my work.

I am far from an expert, but I can assure you my operating system is in good optimal shape. I have pretty much nothing on my PC except the bare essentials, and some games. And keep up with routine maintenance nearly daily.

I was wondering if perhaps it had anything to do with optimization issues with Windows 8, and if this is something that is known behind the scenes where more detailed data can be viewed. Or even potentially that I got an under-performing GPU, or that the average 680 user has their card overclocked substantially above stock. Regardless, of these potential assumptions I felt I was getting a very under-performing score for my specifications.

Perhaps you have any ideas that would exceed my understandings and knowledge?

      Thanks in advance,

It would be good to know the individual results you got for the 3D tests.

The range of scores for the GTX 680 for the 3D mark is from 900 to 8157. These are the extreme outliers however. The 900 score would surely be a totally messed you system with wrong device drviers, etc.. The 8157 score would surely be massively overclocked.

The vast bulk of the machines are in the 4300 to 6100 range.

Several of the fastest machines are Win8 machines. So Win8 isn't the problem in itself.

You should try returning to a normal clock speed, or just lightly overlocked. Maybe it is something like your CPU or GPU overheating and throttling down.

Also try moving a video card driver version forward or back.
