  • IIS 6.0 Install Access Error

I followed the directions for installing TestLog on a Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise Server Service Pack 2, with IIS 6.0. After following the directions twice and having an outside consultant review those settings neither of us can get this application to launch in the browser. We are getting this message in the browser:

You are not authorized to view this page

You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.

    Please try the following:
    • Contact the Web site administrator if you believe you should be able to view this directory or page.
    • Click the Refresh button to try again with different credentials.
HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.
    Internet Information Services (IIS)

    Technical Information (for support personnel)
    • Go to Microsoft Product Support Services and perform a title search for the words HTTP and 403.
    • Open IIS Help, which is accessible in IIS Manager (inetmgr), and search for topics titled About Security, Authentication, and About Custom Error Messages.
This error is displaying in the IIS Log on the server:
    2008-10-29 19:23:25 W3SVC1 GET /TestLog/TestLogCGI.cgi - 80 - Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+7.0;+Windows+NT+5.2;+.NET+CL R+1.1.4322;+.NET+CLR+2.0.50727;+.NET+CLR+3.0.04506 .30;+.NET+CLR+3.0.4506.2152;+.NET+CLR+3.5.30729) 403 19 1314

We have also referred to TechNet and this article on installing CGI Applications on II 6.0:

Can some please explain what permissions need to be set to get this working?

    Thank you!

For a 403 error that specifically references CGI as the problem there is a Microsoft knowledge base article that may help,
