My question is why there is only one logical core. Shouldn't there be two logical core in a pentium d cpu? Also I know that my cpu has 4mb of L2 cache for both cores. 2 mb for each core. So is it just running only one of the cores and not the other one? If so, do I have to upgrade the software so it can run both cores? Thanks for you help

There is only one logical per core becuase you don't have hyperthreading in this CPU. But you DO have two phsyical cores.


Also, can I ask what version of BurnInTest you are using and what O/S you have?

I'm using BurnInTest V5.3 Pro Trial Version. The operating system i'm using is Window XP Professional SP2. I don't know what it is recognizing it since it legal copy of XP.

But it doesn't explain why isn't reading the other core while doing the test. And thanks for answering the other question. So each dual core only really have one logical core unless it is hyperthreading. Things you learn in the web.

Well because in the report it only says this.

CPU1 speed: 3210.8 MHz
CPU L2 Cache: 2 MB (L3 Cache: 0 KB)

I know for a fact that I have 4mb of L2 cache. 2mb for each core.

In the current version of BurnInTest V5.3.1005 the L2 cache size reported is the size of the L2 cache reported by a CPU. So, in this case the L2 cache is 2MB. However, as you point out, there are 2 x L2 caches in this CPU package. We will make this clearer in a future version of BurnInTest.

BurnInTest will start 'n' CPU tests, where 'n' is:
#CPU packages x #CPU cores x #Logical CPUs,
or 2 in this case (1x2x1).

You can confirm this using task manager, Performance, CPU usage history.

The O/S should be reported, this is a bug, and will be corrected in the next minor build of BurnInTest.
