I am getting 3D media errors in Windows Me, such as "cannot initialize Direct X Device" or "warning ...rasterizing" is there a way to get around this.

BurnInTest 4 requires DirectX V8 or above. So this is the 1st thing to check.
The next thing to check is that your video card device drivers fully support DirectX. This is often a problem with old cards (and with new cards that have the wrong driver installed).
Then check that the basic 3D functions work on this machine using the DxDiag.exe software that comes with DirectX.
