I didn't say it was a device driver problem. I said it could be. It could be a device driver, Operating system or hardware problem.

You can update the device drivers in question: sound card, graphics card, directX and the video codecs for the video files you are using.

Does the problem still occur if you run these tests separately?
    Run 3 tests:
    1) Sound only
    2) Video Playback only
    3) 2D only

Do you only find this problem on a single PC type, CPU type, graohics card type?
What rate are you finding this error, 1 in 10 systems?

If you want to know more, send me this information and the log file I asked for and maybe we can add some additional debug logging to BurnInTest.

    Regards,
    Ian Robinson

The watchdog timer is 8 minutes in BurnInTest v5.3.1022.

If you email the whole file that would help, as there is information that you have not included that I am interested in.
    help [at] passmark [dot] com

The most likely casue is a call to the operating system has hung and the test thread has stopped, in our past investigations of this problem, it has been a device driver/hardware problem. The watchdog timer was specifically added for a test hang on a call to a serial port function with a hardware error.

    Ian

    Ian,

Is this change 'operation watchdog timer' cause my test fail ? In other words , is this a crash between our driver/OS and your test soft ?

    Release 5.3 build 1018, 16/April/2008
    • Added an operation watchdog timer for all tests. In rare cases, a single test can stop in the operating system - i.e. there is a problem in the operating system/ device driver that prevents control being returned to the BurnInTest for that test. This was added for specialized serial port hardware that could lockup after several hours of testing.

    Hi Ian,

Can you tell me how long the 'timeout period' defined in Burn-in program ?

Test total time : 24 hrs

Fail Item : 'Sound' or '2D Graphics' or 'Video Playback'

    Fail times: 1

Fail occur time: at about 5 hour

I think this will be better

    Sorry for my bad english.

I mean during the whole 24hrs test process there is only one error ,and the only one error should be a 'Sound' or '2D Graphics' or 'Video Playback' error , and the error occurred at have testing about 5 hours

I look forward to your email.

    I don't understand your statement:
"The error almost happened at have testing about 5~6 hrs ,and our standard is 24 hrs no error. But there is only one error during the whole test, and the only one error often happen at 'Sound' or '2D Graphics' or 'Video Playback'"

    Could you please re-phrase it.

    Regards,
    Ian

I was actually after a log that included period interim results every 1 minute. See Preferences->Logging, set Logging interval to 1 minute.

The log you posted tells me that the 2D, Sound and Video Playback tests did not start. In this case it could be that you ran a short 1 minute test and these tests simply did not start. The 3D test can take some time to start, and this delays the start of a number of tests. Can you please run a 5 minute test with Preferences->Logging, set Logging interval to 1 minute, and post the result.

    Thanks.
    Ian.
