  • Test Errors iwth BurnInTest 6.0 + Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit OS

    Hi PassMark Rep,

I am building a test bundle with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit OS and running BurnInTest 6.0 64-bit version on top of it.

I get the feeling that even though I only created 1 User as Administrator, that somehow I do not have full Admin rights.
PassMark keeps asking me for extra Admin rights to run the get system config at startup, and I see the following Dialog box error each time I go to the PassMark test prefs window concerning a network Admin error:
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Possible Permissions Problem

Warning: Normally only the Adminsitrator has the neccesary permissions.
To open the RAW network socket required to run the Netowrk test.
If this error occurs, logon as the Administrator and try again.
See the Online help, Problems and FAQ section for more details.

    Continue anyway ?
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have also included the test log so you know my system setup and configuration info.

Also, my Video and sound do not work but worked OK with PassMark 5.3 running on Windows XP 32 Bit OS.
This could be a SuperMicro motherboard driver issue, but do you see any obvious things that could be making my video and audio to fail ??

    Thanks, Bill

Yes, this is correct. This is how Vista works. There is the administrator and the elevated administrator. Even if you are the administrator you can right click on an application and select "run as administrator"

Also, my Video and sound do not work but worked OK with PassMark 5.3 running on Windows XP 32 Bit OS
It is highly likely that you don't have the correct 64bit device drivers installed. And in the case if the 3D graphics errors, the video card might not even support 3D, or have hardware acceleration turned off? This is not a permissions problem.

        Hi Ian,

OK, that fixed a couple of issues, but I have new ATI VGA drivers to install
and the setup.exe installer does not support the Run as Administrator feature using a right click, but If I drag a copy of it to the desktop, then I can right-click and enable this feature (new Vista trick for me !) however it will launch but quickly shuts down.

        - Any tips? Since if I run this as in in it's unzipped folder, the ATI installer says it needs to be logged in Administrator mode, which I already am ?

        - Also under an application's properties + security options, one can change the several options and permissions, but the last one called "Special Permissions" is shadowed out and does not allow being enabled ??

Any Vista/BurnInTest help would be appreciated ...

        Thanks, Bill

Don't know if we can help much with your ATI driver install problem (AMD the new owners of ATI, are the people to speak to).

Having said that, Vista automatically detects when you run an installer (in most cases) and will automatically elevate the admin, and then you will see the Windows "User Account Control" prompt. So you shouldn't need to right click on setup package. It should just run if you have the right package for your hardware.

If you Google "User Account Control" you will get a huge amount of information about this. Microsoft have made Windows permissions far too complex.

We have had a report of the "Failed to play back MIDI via sequencer" error that has occurred due to the system running out of memory on Vista and later. It would appear that this is caused by a memory leak in the Microsoft process audiodg.exe. Information and a hotfix can be found here:
