  • Can You Help - Server load and fiber channel

I am trying to load up a 4x 900Mhz Xeon box to make it crash. We are having issue with servers locking up under stress and I need to put some load on it. Can you help? Also I have Fiber Channel HBAs in the boxes that I want to throw large amounts of data across... can you help?

BurnInTest should help you place a lot of load on the server. If the lock up was due to an issue like heat or poor power supply, then this should help reproduce the problem. But if the lock up was due to a bug in a particular device driver and the bug is only provoked in certain circumstances, then you might have a problem reproducing it.

I think you might have a problem finding some way to fully load a FC link. These interfaces generally go to about 2Gbit/sec, which is much higher than most disk systems and a lot of motherboards can handle.

BurnInTest has a disk test, which will stress the drives pretty hard, but will not get close to max-ing out the fibre.
