3D test no visible

I would
1) RUn dxdiag.exe to check basic 3D functions
2) Check to see if there is a new driver available

When running the 3d test, the fps is displayed but I don't see anything (black window). Is this normal?

My graphics card: ATi Radeon X700 mobility

Driver: Came with the OS

DirectX: 9.0c
