  • Strange error on embedded Geode processor

Any idea what might cause this error? The .bitcfg was set to run for 12 hours and halt on the first error. It appears that it ran the full 12 hours, then halted with this strange error. I've snipped out the irrelevant SMART data.

    Thanks.

      Best regagards,
      Ian
Thank you Ian. The above testing was done under WinXP SP2.
As an afterthought, could this software problem also be the cause of bugchecks under Win2K SP4? I was unable to test this board at all with win2K and get any meaningful results. The tests would begin, and the system would reboot in 5 seconds or less.

I have the minidumps if they would be of any use to you, please let me know.

      Thanks again.

I don't know if it is related. The access violation crash is at 0xa0157528 in Win32k.sys in function BltLnkSrcCopyMsk1. After a bit of reading, crashes in the module win32k.sys do not seem that uncommon. Eg
        W2000 SP3
        http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811363/
        WXP
        http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329052

After a bit more reading, my guess is that this system might have Faulty RAM. Please try replacing it.

If it is reproducible on other like systems, I would next suspect a CPU patch problem.

        Best regards,
        Ian

We have created a debug version that we believe resolves this problem. Could you please try it out and let me know.

The new debug version can be downloaded from:
          http://www.passmark.com/ftp/bitpro511012debug2.exe

          Thanks.

Hello Ian, This seemed to work. However, I went back to version 1011 and the failure is not consistent - the next two 12 hour burn-ins did not cause a repeat of the error.

Also, FWIW, the bugchecks are due to some kind of timing problem on the primary IDE channel. Removing the CD-RW drive corrected the issue. I am working with the board vendor to resolve the issue.

            Thanks again.
