  • Error Initializing Direct Draw on hardware burn-in test

I am running burn-in testing on a new build
    • Gigabyte Aorus x670 Elite AX motherboard
    • Ryzen 9 7950 CPU
    • Kingston Beast DDR5 EXPO Desktop Memory - 6000MT/s (32x4)
    • MSI GeForce RTX 3050 Graphics
The CPU and Memory check out fine - several hours of burnin run with no errors.

The Graphics, though is another matter.

It fails straight-away a 'Error Initializing Direct Draw'. I am running this testing using Burnin v9.2 run via USB installation

The graphics card is capable of display and is listed to support DirectX v12, OpenGL 4.6, Vulcan RT API -- should be no capability problem here.

This machine isn't yet running any OS, so I can't imagine any Windows-specific issues here.

What are the failure modes for which I should be looking?

Thanks in advance for the help

Does this mean you are booting from a USB drive using WinPE?
In this case not having DirectX available is normal. The default WinPE install is a cut back version of Windows with a lot of stuff missing.

      Hi Dave,

I appreciate your taking the time to answer.

I does indeed main that I am booting from a USB Drive using WinPE.

I looked int the FAQs looking for something like that info, but didn't find it. Can you point me to the documentation section that covers the WinPE use case for Burn-In? There is probably more there I should look into.

      Thanks again,

      A

Main online web page is here.
        https://www.passmark.com/support/bur...pe_builder.php

But there is this PDF with more detail.
        https://www.passmark.com/downloads/BIT_WinPE.pdf
(page 4 lists the main limitations, which are mostly to do with missing device drivers, which in theory you could add manually, but in practice is it hard work to include everything required)
