  • Plug in and out AC when test Burnin cause DUT hang up

When we test burnin 11.0.1008 on 7640 and 7840 platform, If we plug in or out AC adapter. The DUT will hang up. We do below analyze
    1. Use other version of BIT such as 11.0.1005 10.x, Issue CND.
    2. Use other platform AMD 8845 and Intel RPL and ARL, issue CND.
    3. Plug in and out both can repro this issue.
    4. Set no power limit switch when power souce change can repro.
Please help to check if this is known BIT issue on 7640 and 7840. Thanks.

There are a dozen different CPUs with 7640 or 7840 in the name.

We assume CND, means can not detect? (and not Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament nor Canadian Dollars)

We aren't sure what "Set no power limit switch when power souce change can repro" means.

But this isn't a known issue. If it was a software issue it would be strange that it happened with a 7640 CPU and not a 8845 CPU.

We test on 7640HS and 7840HS. Notebook.

Yes, CND means can not detect or can not duplicate.

This means there is no power limit switch between AC and DC. Normally AC power limit is higher than DC.

We assume it is compatibility issue between software and platform. Since there is 11.0.1005 BIT can not duplicate this hang up.

Do you mean the entire computer freezes, or just the BurnInTest application?

If it is the entire computer that freezes it is almost always a hardware or device driver issue.

Does it happen if BIT is just idle (without any load). Or does it only happen under heavy load?

The entire computer hang up. It can repro just launch BIT without any loading. And Just try BIT 11.0.1006, it is pass. We have no 11.0.1007 version. Please help to check the version update history. Thanks.

You can find the change list here
            https://www.passmark.com/products/bu...st/history.php

There isn't anything obvious that is related to power management.

Try turning off temperature monitoring and see if you still see the problem at idle.

Just tried 11.0.1007 and turn off temperature monitor, issue both reproduce. Please help to review update between 1006 and 1007 since 1006 can not repro this issue.

Just an update - we have a possible fix for this issue. It was related to changes in order to improve the accuracy of obtaining memory clock speed on Zen 4 chipsets. A workaround was required in V11 build 1007 for accessing certain PCI registers which previously resulted in a BSOD, in recent Windows builds, with build 1006.

Updated code will be in build V11.0 build 1009
