Using BIT 5.1 in Vista

Hi,

We are having some minor issues with BurnInTest Pro 5.1 (build 1014) in Windows Vista.

• During LAN testing the program hangs, or restarts, creating loads of tempfiles. If we turn off LAN testing, it runs straight through.
• BIT doesn't report the OS correctly. Vista Home Premium is reported as "Operating System: Home Edition build 6000"
• BIT also doesn't recognize the display adapter. Under "Video card", it simply reports the screen resolution and bit-plane depth.

Are there fixes available to any of these problems? We use the fully-licenced product.

Thanks! Alas, the new version only really solves one of the issues: It now reports the correct OS version. However, the display adapter still isn't recognized and LAN testing still doesn't work.

Also, the program "forgets" our product key, which means we have to enter it again for each separate installation. Hopefully this has something to do with licencing rules?

Oops... the video description update has not been put into BurnInTest yet (it is in PerformanceTest). The updates requried for the video card description will be included in the next build.

We have not seen this Network issue (however a Vista specific issue was resolved in V5.1.1014). Could you please describe the Network test configuration ? Also, if you run BurnInTest with elevated administrator privileges ("run as administrator") do you have the same problem. I have indications that the latest update did in fact resolve the LAN issue.

We have released V5.2 of BurnInTest Standard (32-bit) and Professional (32-bit and 64-bit).

These support Windows Vista (including the reporting of Graphics cards on Vista) as well as other improvements.

Almost everything seems to work with 5.2 in Vista, though we still can't get it to detect the graphics chipset. The report only prints the screen resolution and bitplane depth. It's no biggie, but still a little bit annoying.

We have tested the Graphics card detection and it seems OK with V5.2.1005. If you are using this version, could you please send us an email to help [at] passmark [dot] com with the information described below.

Could you please try a beta version of BurnInTest Std V5.3.0000 just to collect debug information about the graphics card information collection:

Please don't use this version for anything other than sorting out this problem.

Please start BurnInTest from the command window with the command line parameter /u. eg.
bit.exe /u
This will force the creation of a debug log file. For example this will be something like: eg. C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\PassMark\BurnInTest\Debug_070228_172210. trace
Could you please email us this file. Specifically, I am interested in log entries like the following:

I admit we were a bit confused by the answer, but we decided to download the beta 5.3 and test it. The same problem occurred and we also saw a host of other bugs, according to the tester.

The trace-file is on its way to you via e-mail.

To clarify: Would you like us to prepare a trace-file using the 5.2.1005 version as well?
