In BurnInTest, you can set the acceptable distortion level. (e.g. 5%). Anything above this level will will generate a Fail result.
This measures the distortion level for a simple sine wave.
So this should be repeatable by anyone, who has the same hardware, EMI environment and O/S settings.

Guest repliedAh so do you mean the pass/fail criteria or limit can be preset? This is fine as it will ensure our tests are repeatable (by anybody).

BurnInTest has a sound card loopback test that can be used to give a simple pass / fail response based on a distortion level that you set.
SoundCheck might be used to investigate the distortion, but SoundCheck can't really be automated, nor does it produce a figure for harmonic distortion.

Sound card testing
Hello,
I wish to automate the testing of soundcards to indicate the basic capability to play and record in stereo is working ok (using a loopback between speaker out and line in).
I'm looking for a program that displays a quantitative figure (such as total harmonic distortion) that can be compared with a simple test limit in a test report, in order to be said to pass.
Can this be done using BurnInTest or is SoundCheck needed? Alternatively can the screenshots of the recordings be saved to disk?
