  • Raw Read Error Rate

    Hello,

    I have just purchased a new seagate 500GB ST3500320AS a week back

When I ran DiskChekup on that

DiskCheckup Version: DiskCheckup V2.1 Build: 1001
SmartDisk DLL Version: SmartDisk DLL SDK v1.0 Build: 1013
    Time of export: 22:43:50 28-May-2008
    Device ID: 1
    Device Capacity: 476937 MB
    Serial Number: 9QM2CN36
    Model Number: ST3500320AS

    SMART ATTRIBUTES:
ID Description Raw Value Status Value Worst Threshold TEC
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    1 Raw Read Error Rate 57827534 OK 113 100 6 08 Nov 2008 01:06:20

This is worrying me. The above row is also highlighted in red color.
Will my disk die on 08 Nov 2008 or before that.

    Earlier the value was 118

Please let me know if I should go for RMA?

This is only an very rough estimate. 1 week of samples is not enough to make an accurate prediction. A small degradation during one week doesn't mean the degradation will continue at this rate (but if it did the drive would probably fail around the time predicted). So watch the drive for a few weeks. If there is no further degradation, the predicted failure date should creep forward into the future.
