We have upgraded our main server this morning. This is the server that runs this forum, the baseline benchmark database and the web sites.
There was a minor outage of around 10min. But Everything is now back up on new server hardware.
We had been on the old machine for over 2 years and it was time to update.
The server is now running a Xeon E5-2630 Hexa core (12 threads), 16GB DDR3 ECC RAM and mirrored Intel SSDs. The previous machine was a Intel Q8300 Quad core 6GB RAM and a 7200 RPM drive. The operating system and web server software were also updated.
So the new machine should be between 2 to 5 times quicker. This should be noticeable when searching for baselines, running searches on the web site and browsing the forums.
Should anyone notice anything not working correctly, please let us know.
