  • workstation for rendering with 3ds max

I would like to set up a workstation for rendering in 3ds max +vray. I need a powerfull cpu, at least 24gb ram and medium to high end graphic card. I would be happy if the whole workstation apart from the monitor didnt hurdle the price of 2000 euros.
    Thanx in advance.

    I don't follow European pricing.
But if you can afford it, the Intel Core i7-3930K would be a good choice for CPU. Other slightly cheaper options would be the, Intel Xeon E3-1275 V2 and Intel Core i7-3770K
The best AMD option would be the AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core. There are faster CPUs, but I think they would be outside of your budget.

For GPU, there are workstation cards, like the Quadro 4000 and FirePro W5000

You should do some research on if it makes sense to get an (expensive) workstation cards, or if you are better off with a consumer card.

      Thanx for the reply david..
Just another question. I see in the "High End CPUs" chart that Intel Xeon E5-1650 @ 3.20GHz has a better score than Intel Xeon E5-2620 @ 2.00GHz.
If I make a system with dual Intel Xeon E5-2620 that would have the double score?

I saw somewhere that only Intel Xeon E5-26xx series are for dual sockets, is this true?

I didn't suggest the better dual CPU Xeons as they are out of your budget. At least for a pair of good ones.

The Xeon 2620 has a very low clock speed. Dual Xeon 2620s aren't going to perform very well on any task that can't take advantage of at least 12 cores.

If you had to choose dual xeons under 1000euros what would you do? (as far as I understand dual xeons are the best for rendering in 3dsmax). My main intention is to find a strong cpu+motherboard+ram pack. Gpu is a secondary matter. So I want this pack for ~1500euros and ~500 all other stuff.

Xeons are nearly the same as consumer CPUs. The major difference is in the marketing.
            But with the
Xeons they motherboards are more expensive, especially dual socket boards, and they often use ECC RAM. Which is slower and more expensive.

You need to find some real
3dsmax benchmarks, not rely only on the marketing.
