  • First PC Build

I'm looking to do my first pc build. I will be buy exclusively from newegg. I don't plan on doing any high demand gaming. But taking college courses online for computer programming. Here is what i have thus far and will be placing the order soon. The only thing i have been real iffy on is the graphics card and ssd. I will be running a ssd for my OS which will be window's 7 and a standard 500G hard drive for everything else. My current total without a graphics card is 1194.91. Like i said i havn't been able to settle on one. I'm looking for around 200 for a GPU. Please give me some experienced input. Thanks.

If you aren't gaming, or storing a lot of movies, then you might not need the 2nd 500GB hard drive (you could also use an external USB3 drive if you needed extra storage / backup later).

Even a low end video card is fine for programming (unless you are developing games, which you won't be initially in your course).

The 1200W power supply would seem to be massive over kill. Something around 550W would make more sense, especially if you do decide to take a low end video card.

If you are doing programming then Visual Studio will use all the cores in the FX-8350. But for single threading tasks it isn't the best CPU.

if you really want to spend this much on a GPU, this is the best one to buy right now: GTX 650 Ti Boost:

but as David said, it doesn't sound like you need to spend that much.

I'd save the money and go with this one: Radeon HD 6670

It's cheap but it's no slouch.

        Thanks for the addvice

i dont believe i would be able to run this card because it uses pci express 3.0. The mother board i chose only has 2.0.

It doesn't matter. It's backwards compatible, so it should still work.
