first pc build, need help

I just built my first pc and after watching a video by newegg i unplugged my 500GB hard drive when installing my OS so to ensure that it will all go onto my SSD. I have updated all drivers and whatnot no problem. I connected my second drive (i believe it is known as my slave) and the system does not recognise it. Correction, when i look in the bios it is there. but when i look at my computer i cant find it. I'm using the GIGABYTE 990FXA-UD5 mobo with wondows 7. Any suggestions. Like i said this was my first build.

Maybe it needs formatting from the Window's Disk Management tool?

Yes, I had to convert it to a MBR Disk.
