Running complex macros in MS Excel 2013

I have a spreadsheet with complex macros developed in MS Excel 2010 (possibly 2007) and I'm trying to run it on Excel 2013, but getting lots of 'Excel has run out of resources' errors.
The machine is uber powerful, twin XEON processors with 24 cores and 32Gb RAM. Its an excel issue I'm sure of it but I can't understand what the problem is?

Other people have complained that Excel has bugs with hyperthreading and NUMA (i.e. it doesn't work on 'uber powerful' machines but works on lessor machines).
