Why isn't the price performance chart ( https://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html )sorted by, well, price performance? Or am I just missing something?

That graph is always sorted by performance.
Most people who think they want the best price performance, really don't.
The graph you want is here, best value, all time.
But you find very old CPUs are the best value, like the AMD A6-3410MX APU. And as a result the graph isn't as useful as you might think it should be.
Slightly more useful is the best value CPU on market graph. As most of these CPUs you can actually buy new if you look around.
Finally there are also some sorting and filtering options on the CPU Mega List. -
