  • USB3 test plug does not work with TUSB1002 redriver

We are researching the possibility to use TUSB1002 redriver chip in our system that has rather long USB3 cables to ensure less channel losses. We have an evaluation board from Texas Instruments - https://www.ti.com/tool/TUSB1002EVM

When using this board, USB3 test plug from PassMark does not enumerate as SuperSpeed device while other USB3 devices we have do enumerate as USB3 Super Speed no problem.

What could be the cause of this behavior? TUSB1002 has internal state machine that does periodic check to detect a connected USB device, could it be that USB3 test plug makes decision to not use UBS3 lines too early? Can you suggest any workarounds or things to try?

We aren't aware of any problem, but not many people use redriver chips.
The Cypress chip in our plug is one of the most common USB device chips on the market (it is used a lot in high end cameras for example).

It's hard to give a reason without having the hardware to test. The periodic check to detect a connected USB device is likely to be the reason.
Do you have a USB protocol analyzer to look at the packets and send us the trace file?

Hi, thank you for your answer.

Oddly enough another redriver chip from Texas Instruments - TUSB501 works just fine. We don't have USB3 analyser unfortunately.
