  • USB Tester Step Response Test

    Hello,

    I performed the step response test on a USB charger with the passmark USB tester device. For this test, only the data for the first 7000 microseconds is recorded (attached image). Is there a way to record the data for more time for this test, say atleast 50ms?

    Best regards,

    The value is hard coded.
    The current time period was selected as it should be sufficient to check if the device under test is within specs. It seemed a reasonable duration, given how buck converters typically respond to load transients.

    We'll make a note to see if it is possible to make the time period configurable in a future software release.

      Hello,

      Thank you for the information.

      I am currently trying to certify a dedicated charging port (DCP) USB charger based on IEC 62680-1-1 USB standard. I have attached a screenshot of a step response test stated in section 4.4.2 of the specification document. The variable values are as follows -

      I_dcp_low = 0mA to 30mA
      I_dcp_mid = 0mA to 100mA
      I_dcp_hi = greater than 100mA
      V_chg_undsht = 4.1V
      T_dcp_ld_stp = 20ms
      T_dcp_undsht = 10ms

      So to complete this certification test for DCP chargers, one has to be able to measure the output voltage of the charger for atleast 10ms after the step response test is initiated, which is currently not possible with the current software version of the USB tester device.

      Till when could we expect a future software release for the device? Please let me know. Thank you once again.
