This is (might be) a stupid question, but can checking those SMART infos be bad for a drive in anyway? Does it temporarily stress drive or something like that?
You would need to check the manufacturer of your particular drive. But in most cases the hard disk is collecting all this information even if you don't ask for it. When you do ask for it, the details are read from a RAM buffer.
