  • Minimum usb size for 4.3.7 image? AND advice

Is there a minimum size usb stick needed to run memtest86 4.3.7 ? I don't see any mention in quick forum check or FAQs. Thx

    Using for first time, ever.

Testing existing memory 12 Gb (2x4Gb + 2x2Gb) before switching out the 2Gb sticks to 4Gb sticks, (to max out board at 16Gb) with a pair i just picked up on eBay that match my other 2x4Gb sticks.

    G Skill F3-12800CL9S-4GBRL x2 (pre-existing, 2 singles) G Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL ("new-used", 1 matched pair).

One thing that has been bugging me is that even though the 2 & 4Gb sticks have the same specs on the package and labels, etc. they kinda show up differently in BIOS. By kinda, I mean that the 2Gb sticks show as 1333mhz in one BIOS page and as 1600 in another but with slightly different timings. AOD shows them both as 1600 running at 1600mhz but with slightly different timings from each other.

I recently increased my OC with a Hyper 212 Evo up to 3250mhz on a Athlon II x4 620 (stock 2600mhz). This was at 250 x13 which increased HT to over 2400 and mem speed to 1640 and it was running at spec 9-9-9-24 2T.

The HT and mem was above what mobo supported or recommended, so I underclocked mem to 1333 for first time ever - and actually, the timings decreased to 7-7-7-? 1T.

Running Memory Mark at different OC profiles, slight difference in CPU freq but biggest difference was different mem profiles resulted in:

    3.2G 1333 - Score of 1063, DBOp 32, MemRd unc 5471, Av RAM 8731, MemThrd 13617, Mem Rd Cached 9637, Mem Wrt 4034, Mem Lat 61

    3.25G 1600 - Score of 1138, DBOp 33, MemRd unc 6196, Av RAM 9222, MemThrd 16154, Mem Rd Cached 9629 Mem Wrt 4636, Mem Lat 58

Basically, higher uncached mem read & write at higher speed and slightly lower latency, which was a surprise since timings are supposedly lower at 1333 (I thought 7-7-7-? with 1T would have greater effect.

Any advice or input would be appreciated. I just want to get max out of this 5 year old board, my main work station (Real Estate Appraiser - lots of multi-tasking with PDFs, many multi-tabbed web browser windows for tax records & MLS etc., photos, spreadsheets, and appraisal software optimized for multi-monitors. I don't game on this machine.

I also have a Phenom II x4 965 3.4Ghz on way from another eBay purchase ($51 w/ shipping = score!) I expect tests will run better on that due to L3 cache + higher speed - will likely OC to 3.8 -4.0, maybe set an undervolt BIOS Profile too, just for web surfing in off hours.

    Thanks

Short version: I have two 8 Gb usb sticks that are Win 7 & Win 10 bootables. And a random 122 MB usb stick - is that big enough to run memtest 4.3.7 from? Or do I need to overwrite one of my bootables for now to run?

    Thanks

The old V4 release requires very little space., only around 1MB.
The current V7 release requires around 160MB. (it contains multiple versions of the software, logs, language files, etc.. that make it bigger)

If this is a business machine, then I would suggest just dumping the whole machine and getting something modern.
Spending hours to extract 5% RAM speed improvement at the possible cost of system instability is a false economy.
