  • Asus P9X79 board with UEFI runs old 4.3.7?

Hi, I am new to memtest86. I understand from the manual that if your motherboard uses traditional bios, no matter what version you download it will revert to 4.3.7. Is that right?

I have the Asus P9x79 LE board with UEFI and have downloaded the most recent version 7 but when I run it, version 4.3 7 runs. Shouldn't it run version 7.4? Thanks for your help!

Yes, if the machine is really old with traditional BIOS, then you can only use V4.
Yes, if you have UEFI, you should be able to boot V7.

Thank you for the response. I will go in and check for a legacy boot situation. I do recall seeing UEFI specifically on my setup page so I should be able to use version 7. Is there much difference between version 4 and version 7? I have run two passes so far with 32 gigs of memory with no errors using version 4.3.7. Maybe I don't need to investigate any further using a different version?

You can find the main differences between V4 and V7 here,

There are some new tests, but the chances of finding a problem in V7 that V4 missed aren't all that high (Maybe 80% of the tests are in common).
