  • Memtest x86 gives errors on 2 RAMs but not on each one of them

    Hi
    I have a Gigabyte B85M-HD3 motherboard with 2 4.0GB DDR3 1600MHz Apacer RAMs and Intel 4130 Core i3 processor.
I was getting BSOD on Windows 10 when gaming or using other hardware-intensive things. I ran Memtest x86 and I got errors on the [Moving inversions] tests. (3,4,5):

Addr: 1820ECDC4 Expected: FEFEFEFE Actual: FEFEFEFF CPU: 2
Addr: 1828EF2A4 Expected: BFBFBFBF Actual: BFBFBFBE CPU: 2
Addr: 1846EE4A4 Expected: EFEFEFEF Actual: EFEFEFEE CPU: 0
    ....

And many other similar errors on test 4.
I removed one stick to find which one is corrupt but the error didn't show up when using a single RAM on any of motherboard slots.
I put the RAMs back again and it gives errors again.

    What does this mean?

This isn't unusual. Having 2 sticks places them into dual channel mode. Which changes the timings, and thus the behaviour.

Probably only one is bad. You might be able the fix / hide the problem with timing or voltage level changes in BIOS. But otherwise you probably want to keep a matched pair, and so should replace both sticks.
