Memtest86 v8.1 freeze

I'm using Memtest86 v8.1 and it freezes on the splash screen every time, It never even gets to any tests.

I've seen a couple of posts about certain motherboards not handling the text right, is that what's going wrong?

Does it freeze on the splash screen? Or when you go to the main menu?

It freezes on the splash screen, I never even see the main menu.

Last lines in log were,

Char width=8 height=19
Loading image

So it looked like the freeze was when bitmap images were being loaded from the USB drive into RAM (for use in the graphical main menu).

The BIOS is a bit old. Can you try updating the BIOS.

The only newer BIOS for it is in beta, should I give that a shot?

Is up to you how much you trust ASUS,
Another possibility might be that the USB drive is bad and the image files can't be loaded from the flash drive.

I'm out of town for a few days, but when I get back I'll try a different USB drive.
