  • Test 6 Only Errors, Steps Forward

    Hi all,

I am having frequent machine freezes. I ran memtest overnight and saw errors only on Test 6. I will now attempt to test each RAM module one by one on Test 6 only.

How likely is it that it's a defective RAM module? The lowest and highest errors are spread through all of memory (0x6A56BC0 (106MB) - 0x831CD1D38 (33564MB)).

Are there other things I should try to debug? Thanks in advance. Summary

Bad RAM would still be my first guess.

Thank you for the quick reply. I ended up:

      1) testing each RAM module one by one for test 6 only. They all passed.
      2) testing each RAM module two by two for test 6 only. Again everything passed.
      3) I started testing three of the four modules at a time and sure enough test 6 started failing again.

At this point I had a hunch it might be a BIOS issue. There was a setting to change the RAM from "Auto" to a manual setting. That seemed to fix the issue.

I then re-ran memtest with all four RAM modules for over 24 hours and I got zero issues. Knock on wood things look stable for the moment...
