  • Memtest test6 errors

First think im not an native speaker in english so sorry for all the errors ans simple words.

I recently bought 2nd hand 2x4gb for my old laptop.
The ram i got is SK Hynix SO-DiMM 1.35v 1600MHz My CPU only uses 1333 only though.
Previously i had 3Gb 1x1gb 1333Mhz and 1x2Gb 1333Mhz both 1.5v - some preinstalled modules from the factory of Laptop.
I was using Linux Mint on that laptop, but as it felt slow I upgraded the CPU to the same one that was listed in the compatible list - from producer.

After installing those 2 modules the system booted up but the CInamon GUI or whatever it is crasshed on login, and it happens each time.
I did try to boot with 1 module out of those two and i had no crash on that Cinamon thingy. I did not try to swap out and see other module on its own I decided to do the mem test.

I had errors only on test-6 , bellow are some screens and logs( not sure that in the right order). Im not sure if those errors are something thats common, or those modules are totaly bad and i should send them back, or maybe i should test them in some other way.

There could be some other error with the system itself, I think this way cause I installed the system when there was only 3GB of ram, maybe there is some kernel problems when I install 8Gb im totaly newb and this is the frist time I use linux i wanted to try it out.

    single module results

after this first error I installed the other Dimm and ran the tests again

Looks like bad RAM to me.

Is it possible, that only when those 2 modules are installed I get errors in test6 and if they are on their own the tests show no errors? I ask Because I did install each of the sticks in either of the two slots and I get pass with no errors when the module is on its own, but if i combine them together i get errors.

I also did try to combine either of the 4gig modules with one i had before a 2gig module, same manufacturer. In this case one combination shows errors the other does not.
But if i do the tests on the 4 gig module that shows errors when combined with 2gig module i get no errors like mentioned previously.

Could it be that its cause im using the free version and due the limit to 4 passes there are some random elements that can not be detected when there is only 4 tests in a row, where if there were lets say 20 tests some errors could be detected?

Some errors only manifest in dual channel mode (which means two sticks for most CPUs).

some random elements that can not be detected
I don't understand the question. Errors were detected. The RAM is bad. Dual channel RAM should be in matching pairs. So even if the fault was just in one stick, you probably want to replace both anyway. Otherwise just buy one new stick (but it needs to match speeds and timings) and test it in combination with the existing ones.
