  • Cant figure out the new Memtest86 - Does this mean I have bad RAM or CPU?

I recently decided to build a dedicated Win7 machine as I use a lot of programs for work that are not fully Win10 supported.

I already had a Z97 ITX mobo that has been gathering dust (in its box and anti-static wrapper) so I set out and bought RAM and i7-4790k on eBay.

I ran Memtest86 Today's version and cant for the life of me tell if its testing my CPU, RAM or CPU&RAM ?!
I have not ran Memtest in years, last time I do not remember it ever mention CPU so this has me confused.

    Mobo: Gigabyte Z97N-WIFI
    RAM: Kingston DDR3 1866 8G (x2)
    CPU: Intel i7-4790k

I don't know of any software that works on WIn7, but not WIn10.

Anyway, memory errors normally mean the RAM is bad.

    See

I just need to clear up what I am returning.
The RAM is bad, clearly with the errors right?

Did Memtest actually test the cpu also?

Asking this because I ran the RAM benchmarks provided in Memtest and everything seemed fine.

The CPU is required to function correctly (to some degree) to test the RAM.
Running benchmarks doesn't mean the RAM is error free.
        Otherwise see my post above.
