  • Booting MemTest86 Pro under Coreboot

I purchased MemTest86 Pro and am trying to run it on a motherboard with a coreboot BIOS in order to test ECC error injection. I created a bootable USB and tested it on a different machine which worked fine. The target board boots and finds the USB but then gets stuck booting it without any additional output. The board in question is a SuperMicro X11SSH-TF and has an Intel Xeon E3-1240 v5 (Skylake) CPU. The reason I am running coreboot is that the default BIOS locks the ECC error injection features (as far as I know).

    1. Are there known compatibility issues with coreboot?

    2. Is it possible to boot the Pro version from GRUB (to exclude any USB failure)? If so, how would one set this up?

    3. Any other ideas on how to debug this?

    Thanks!

We haven't done any testing with Coreboot, but we aren't aware of any issues.
You might want to have a look at the debug log from Memtest86 (MemTest86.log in the 'EFI/BOOT' directory).

    For GRUB see these posts

In case anyone stumbles across this thread in the future and is interested in this process, we've recently written a guide on how to run MemTest86 directly from Grub.
