  • Use with a partitioned USB

I'm trying to create a diagnostic & system recovery USB which will have multiple partitions on it. For example one of the partitions will be a live Linux distro, with another being Memtest86. Will this be possible? It says specifically in the readme instructions included with the free version of Memtest86 to "Use the base device (ie. /dev/sdc) not a partition designation (ie. /dev/sdc1)", however is this just advice to avoid the user making a mistake? Will it still be possible to install to a partition for my use case?

    thanks!

It isn't something we have tried to do.

You can't just write MemTest86 into a partition on the drive as that would not make the drive bootable (unless you do some extra manual steps). Thus the indication in the readme file (when using Linux) to use the base device.
