    Difference in memory size

    Hello,

My system always had 32G memory installed and available - 4x8G modules. Modules are still installed, however now only half of memory detected as 'available pool'.

Please see the attached photo - memtest detects that 4 slots have 8192MB modules installed, with total memory size 16G.

Can somebody please explain why there is a 16G difference between installed and available memory?

You are using the Memtest86+ V5 software, which is both old and not our software. So we can't help you with it.

      Oops, sorry my bad.

      Memtest86 v8.4 gives similar information - RAM installed 32G, physical memory 16G.

Maybe the motherboard doesn't support any more than 16GB. Or maybe it requires a firmware update to support 32GB.
Or maybe the sticks are firmly inserted in their slots. So the SMBus works to detect the sticks, but the address bus doesn't work.

I did a Google search for you. Seems to be a fairly common problem with this motherboard.

        Examples

Although there wasn't a great solution in the above posts, the internet was leaning towards it being a hardware failure.
