  • Are these Macs new enough to run MemTest 5.1?

    Hi!
I have problem running MemTest on Macbook Pro 7.1 (2010 as far as I remember well). It boots from CD but starts only 4.3 version.
I also had problem running Memtest on my Mac Pro 3.1 (200 - it doesn't start at all (I got empty blue screen). I had problems making bootable USB, so played with CD version only.
Are these machines "new" enough to run Memtest 5.1? Or to run either version in case of my Mac Pro...
    Regards,
    Artur

MacBook Pro should have EFI support.
Is your installed version up to date?

Booting from USB does not seem to be supported by Apple:

Usually EFI CD Boot has a lower priority (if it all) than Legacy CD Boot.
Therefore you will have to change this in the BIOS or do a "One Time Boot".

      Thank you for your hints!
Thanks to the recipe from this page:
      http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-mac-osx
I suceeded making a bootable USB stick and started MemTest85 v5.1 on my 2008 Mac Pro (3,1). It will be a busy night for my Mac
I still haven't tested it on my Macbook Pro, but taking into account that everything went so smoothly on the bigger Mac, I do not expect any troubles.

USB booting on Macs should be no problem.
