  • How do you stop memtest86?

We inherited a Dell Optiflex gx520 with a Linus mint 13 OP. When I turn the computer on it runs the memtest86 v4. If I hit esc the test just starts again. Everywhere online they say to remove the disk or USB, but there is no disk/USB to remove. Is there anything I can do to make this computer usable or is it a lost cause?

How do you know it has Mint on it, if it never boots into an operating system?

Maybe someone wiped the main hard drive and installed MemTest86 on it? In which case just re-install Windows or Linux from CD.

Try to use the up and down arrow before Memtest is starting.
Typically the Grub boot loader is used to switch between the kernels and Memtest.

My guess is that Dell misconfigured that wrong and set the wait timer to a very small value.
Maybe you get a glance t the grub screen before Memtest starts?

Are you sure this is Memtest86 and not Memtest86+ by the way?
