  • Foxconn NT535 Barebone - weird Memtest results

    Dear Memtest86 community,

I have bought a used Foxconn NT535 Barebone and I am trying to install Ubuntu 14.04.1-desktop-amd64 with an USB drive. I have created the bootable drive with pendrivelinux.
I have tested the RAM with Memtest86 since every attempt to install Ubuntu ends with Kernel panic.

I have downloaded http://www.memtest86.com/downloads/memtest86-usb.zip and created a bootable USB drive.

    Now whats weird:
    1. Memtest86 (Version 4.3.7 BIOS) menu appers and I can select one of 5 options.
If I dont press any key then the memory test is auto started and it shows many errors (over 65536).
If I choose the first options (default) then I dont get any errors.

    2. One DDR3 RAM module with 4GB is installed and Memtest86 shows 4086MB.
Why does the memory test also tests addresses over 4086MB (like 5120MB)?

I am very sorry for my bad english, I am not a native english speaker.
    Many thanks for your help!

We found that the memtest86 images have the default set to option 5 (enable serial console) instead of option 1. This has been fixed so please try the following download:

    http://www.memtest86.com/downloads/m....7-usb.img.zip

The reason you are seeing memory addresses greater than your RAM capacity is because the system address map includes address ranges that are not part of physical RAM, such as MMIO or device memory. These particular address ranges are not tested by memtest86 as it does not correspond to physical memory.
