  • Memtest86 reporting errors on a fine running system

    Hi,
    hello to everybody
    i'm new here.

    Our system:

    Intel DX58SO2
    Intel i7990x
    Kingston KHX1600C9D3K6/24GX (6 modules each 4GB)

We have two equal computers like this for music production.

We have no crashes or blue screen or other errors.

    Nevertheless Memtest86 reports errors.
    (version memtest86-4.3.7-usb.img.zip)

We use Jedec 1333 timings automaticly chosen by the BIOS.

There is nothing special no overclocking, just a stable workstation with excellent air cooling etc.

We really do not know why we get these errors.

    Additionally,
    when terminating the ram test,
when we reboot the computer afterwards,
we get memory error messages (beeps) until we cold restart the computer.

I could imagine that this could be a problem of the memtest86 version.
    just an idea ...

    Anyway thanks for assistance

    cheers

This is a pretty old system now. And V4 of Memtest86 is a pretty old version of MemTest86.

Would have been good to see the errors, but if Memtest86 reports errors, then they are likely real errors.

      Hi David,

      thanks for your answer.
I downloaded version 8.4, enabled UEFI in BIOS, and run the test without any errors.
(i never used UEFI boot before, that's why i used version 4.3 all the time)

      Just one more question:

We used the timings, selected automaticly by BIOS. (Jedec1333)
Do you recommend to use XMP1600 profile?
Will the computer have same reliability?

      Thanks for advice.

      Cheers mike

If it is supported in BIOS the XMP setting should (in theory) be both faster and also stable.
