  • Can I unmount usb during testing?

    Motherborad: GA-X99-UD4
    CPU: i7-5930K
    Memory: DDR4 1pcs Samsung M378A1G43DB0-CPB, 8GB 2Rx8, PC4-2133 .
    Use: Memtest86 6.0 beta2

When I unmount usb will happen a problem as below:
"Sometimes can keep test continue, but sometimes would be hung up didn't going test."
So my question is "Can I unmount usb during testing?"

    Thank you very much.

MemTest86 writes test reports to the USB drive.
So it doesn't seem like a good idea to remove the drive mid test.

It isn't something we have tested. Given the extremely low price of low capacity USB drives, there doesn't seem much need to pull out the drive mid test.

Sometimes I load the image on servers with a special remote console (depending on the vendor).
Typically I do this when I want to give a new build a try without having to walk to the server.

However when I shut down my own machine, the image will be unmounted.
This should behave similar to unplugging the USB flash drive.

It has not caused any issues so far for me, but it's definitely not recommended.

However you will lose on the largest advantages of the new memtest: Logfile stops after dismounting.

You should never unplug the flash drive in my oppinion if you want to test a system for stability.
Just get a second flash drive if that's your problem, they're quite cheap
