  • How do you verify ECC error injection working?

    Hello,
Tried MemTest ECC error injection feature on Intel Comet lake platform(Chipset W480E + CPU Xeon W-1270E), just only see always ECC inject, there is not ECC correctable error detected.
Could you help how to make this ECC inject function work normally. Thanks~

When ECC injection is enabled, MemTest86 will attempt to inject single-bit ECC errors at the beginning of each test. If ECC errors were successfully injected and detected by the system, the user shall see an [ECC Inject] message followed by an [ECC Errors Detected] message. If [ECC Errors Detected] message does not appear, it is highly likely the ECC injection is locked or disabled by BIOS.

There is a summary of it here https://www.memtest86.com/ecc.htm

ECC is a complex disarray of standards and how the error is recorded by the system can vary. So it is possible the your system is recording the errors in some novel, unexpected way. There is also a chance ECC injection is locked/disabled in BIOS for production use. In this case, you may need a custom BIOS that leaves ECC injection enabled.

we are working on a hardware product to induce ECC errors:

      Hi Richard,

      Thanks for answer.
If [ECC Errors Detected] message does not appear. Do you know which BIOS item highly likely affects ECC injection? Also, when is this hardware product expected to be available?

If there is a BIOS option (and it is rare that there is), it might be called something like,
        "Disable memory error injection"

Supply chain issues and multiple rounds of prototypes have delayed the ECC hardware tester. We are hoping to have a few units available for sale in a couple of weeks. If they are OK, bulk production in a month.

It seems only support DDR4 platform. Is there another working on hardware product have support DDR5?

Not yet. Hardware tester is just DDR4 at the moment.
