Is memtestx86 the same as memtest86?

Don't know. Probably. Depends where you found the "memtestx86" name / software.
The official name is and has always been, MemTest86
(the 86 referring to the machine code instruction set architecture)
86 is a slight misnomer now as we support both 86 and ARM architectures. But we keep the 86 name for historic reasons.
86 architecture is sometimes written as x86, but this isn't the name of our software.
