  • Issue running latest memtest86 ver 10 Build 10000 on WRX80 platform

Hello. I have a new system based around an ASRock WRX80 Creator R2.0 / AMD Ryzen Threadripper 5995WX. Have Samsung 8 x 64GB Registered ECC 3200MHz DDR4 RAM installed. System works fine when running benchmarks in windows (Cinebench R23, Prime95, Geekbench 5, etc). I then want to test the RAM, so have the latest memtest86 version 10 Build 1000 on a bootable USB stick. I can select the stick at bootup, and memtest86 starts up. It gets to “Testing multiprocessor support…” and just hangs. Left it for a few hours, and no progress. I tried an older version of memtest86 v9.4, and it will then get stuck on “Getting memory controller details…”. I then tried to memtest86+, and it works just fine (> 24 hours with no errors). Googling around, and I found this:

    https://forum.level1techs.com/t/memt...creator/190389

So I am not the only one who has issues with a similar configuration. Any suggestions, or is there any known issue or limitations? WRX80? 64GB Registered ECC DDR4 RAM? 5995WX 64-core / 128-thread CPU?

Very likely it is a bug in the UEFI BIOS of this machine.

If you can post the debug log
    https://www.memtest86.com/tech_debug-logs.html

We can put in a work-around for the problem.

Thanks for the response! I have attached the log files from most recent attempt. Let me know if you need anything else.

I took a look at the log file, and notice that it only reports 128GB of RAM, when in fact the system has 512GB of registered ECC DDR4. This is confirmed in Windows and CPU-Z. I also see in the log-file that the tool limits to 16-cores.

2022-11-10 09:29:51 - This platform has 128 logical processors of which 128 are enabled.
2022-11-10 09:29:51 - The number of cores (12 is greater than the maximum supported (16). Limiting the number of cores to 16.
        2022-11-10 09:29:51 - Number of hyperthreads detected: 8
2022-11-10 09:29:51 - Warning - the number of hyperthreads detected ( is not half the total number of processors (12
        2022-11-10 09:29:51 - Testing MP support

Ignore my comment about the 128GB! This is a log-file when I only had 2x64GB sticks installed! Here is the logfile for the 512GB configuration (8x64GB). The results are the same, though the log-file results appear a bit different at the end with event wait time messages.

            Thanks for the logs.

This issue seems to be related to when the total CPU threads exceed the maximum supported in the Free version (16).

We made a possible fix. Can you give this build a try:
