Hi,
I'm fairly new to MemTest86. I have been having problems with Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit hanging around the time I log in and randomly during use for 30-45 seconds at a time before becoming responsive again. I ran malware scans, found nothing (with Webroot SecureAnywhere and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware). Used Windows Disk Cleanup, there wasn't that much junk but cleaned it up anyways. Ran System File Checker, it said everything was fine. Made sure I had the latest updates on Windows and any installed software, the problem still happens sometimes.
I built this computer in the fall of 2013. These problems have only started occurring over the past month or so. Here are the specs:
RAM: 2 x Crucial Ballistix Tactical DDR3 1600, 8gb, cl 8
Mobo: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 rev. 4.0
CPU: AMD FX-8350 Black Edition (unlocked), 8 cores, 4.0ghz
GPU: EVGA (Nvidia) GTX 770 04G-P4-3778-KR 4gb, GDDR5, 256-bit
Thermal Compound: Arctic Silver 5
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
PSU: Corsair HX750, 750 watt
SSD internal (mostly OS files): Intel 335 Series, 240gb, SATA III
HDD internal (mostly large, program files): Western Digital Black WD1002FAEX, 1tb, 64mb cache, SATA 6gb/sec
HDD external (no sys files): Western Digital WDBFJK0020HBK-04, 2TB, USB 3.0
I ran MemTest86 and it came up with 14 errors on Test 7. I have put the results at the end of this post. I was reading the documentation and aside from reseating the RAM modules and making sure I have the latest BIOS, it sounds like the cause is most likely failing RAM. Does that seem correct? Is there anything else I should try before buying new RAM?
Thanks
