Memtest doesn't boot from my USB

    Memtest doesn't boot from my USB

    As the title says, I can't seem to be able to run Memtest from my USB. I've followed the instructions, my USB has been made bootable, I restart my PC, go into Boot options, select the USB but the PC keeps booting on Windows no matter what I do, it just ignores the USB. I have an ASUS Prime B460M-A motherboard and an Intel i9-10900KF.

    I've been getting randoms BSODs recently and repairing Windows didn't seem to resolve the problem, and with the errors I'm getting it's either the issue seem to be either the RAM or this new CPU I've installed some weeks ago.

    On most ASUS motherboards you can hit F8 on the keyboard to get to the boot menu and select the USB drive,
    But if you have already selected the USB drive and it doesn't boot then it is likely you either selected the wrong USB drive, or the USB drive isn't bootable (i.e something went wrong in the process of making it).

    Do you have another machine to try it on?

      No, I don't have another machine; I've tried to format the USB drive on 2 different occasions but the result is the same. Whenever I go into the BIOS and select the USB drive boot nothing happens, except the screen goes black for a frame, as if the BIOS is at least attempting something. When I change the priority and put the USB drive on top and then reset, normal Windows loads up.

      By the images I'm sending, is the USB stick and its content how it should be?

        I don't think you have created the USB drive correctly.

        Top level should have two folders and the license file.

        If you go into the EFI / BOOT folder you should then see this

        Those ,efi files are the executable files for MemTest86 (32bit, 64bit and ARM)

        ​I suspect you have installed the 10 year old V4 release instead of the current V11 release. That old V4 release is only for really old machines that don't have UEFI BIOS.

          Thanks, you're right, I did download the wrong version, didn't notice there was another option at the top of the page there.

          I'll format the USB stick again and proceed with the memory scan as soon as I get another BSOD. Thank you very much for the help
